Lately I’ve been feeling the strange, and kind of fortunate frustration that comes with having multiple creative projects. Even when you’re doing something you love, there is confusion, and burnout. There are thwarted attempts, creative blocks, periods of time where you have lots of ideas and not enough focus. These things are valuable too, because it’s all experience. It’s the continuing effort that leads to breakthroughs and success. What does any of this have to do with skincare? I hear you ask. Well, it got me thinking about how good it is to have simple, reliable, affordable products to support you when life is throwing a lot of STUFF your way.

So it’s high time for the next instalment of my affordable skincare series.

First off, an underrated but necessary item. Hand wash! Recently I’ve become a massive fan of the Thankyou Milk Hand Wash with Botanical Lemon Myrtle and Goat’s Milk. Thankyou is a brand that has committed to putting their profits towards ending world poverty. They don’t test on animals and this soap is free from parabens, synthetic fragrances and all kinds of nasties. Because of this it’s a brand that I really wanted to try out and this hand wash is great. It’s gentle and much less drying than the soap we’d been using previously. The lemon myrtle scent is absolutely delicious, refreshing and comforting. You can pick it up at Priceline for $7.99 AUD.

Next up is an item from one of my very favourite brands, Frank Body. This Australian made and owned brand uses naturally derived products, and is a cruelty free brand. They’re known for having coffee in their yummy products, which are getting more and more popular for good reason. They make so many things that I love, but I’m especially enjoying their Cherry Bomb Lip and Cheek Tint. It does have a little flavour in it which I usually don’t like, but it’s very mild. The formula is silky and nourishing, the shade is sheer and gives a natural looking cherry sheen. It’s $11.95 AUD from Mecca.

Next up is the only chemist/drugstore brand foundation that I have ever truly loved. The Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation. My favourite finish is usually one that looks quite natural. Dewy, but not shiny, breathable, moisturised. This foundation strikes a lovely balance between radiance and reliable coverage. It’s light to medium coverage and can be built up if need be. It’s currently on sale at Priceline for $16 AUD but it’s usually $32 AUD and well worth the price.

Finally, a product that I’ve come to consider as a must have for dry, sensitive skin. The Aveeno Skin Relief Moisturising Lotion, which is for hands and body. I love this one for a few reasons. First of all, it’s suitable for really really dry skin. Sometimes my skin feels so parched that a lot of products will make it really irritated. This gives nourishment and protection, relieves itchiness and is fragrance free. They also have a similar body wash which can be great for when you’re feeling under the weather and don’t want to be overwhelmed with fragrance. It’s a great basic product to have around, and can be purchased for $12.99 AUD at Priceline.

  1. Thank you Lorelie, I appreciate it! The drawings are a lot of fun to add, I’ve been illustrating using the Procreate app to try and add something unique and personal to my blogs, so I’m glad you like them.
    Best wishes, Vivienne
