New Year, Same Lipstick

New year, same me, more or less. I don’t have any concrete resolutions for the year, but I have decided to write a post for you about some of my skincare and beauty goals that I’ve been thinking about lately.

Stop hoarding things! Use them.

I have a habit of just looking at pretty products and being afraid to use them. One of the presents my husband bought me for Christmas was a beautiful Diptyque candle which I was so excited to receive and absolutely have not lit. I can’t, you see. It’s beautiful and perfect, and I’m coveting it the same way I would have before it was in my possession. I stare at it. Sometimes I pick it up. The thing is, the candle can wait for me. But skincare has a definite expiry, so in 2019 it’s my hope that I’ll use things and get them finished.

Try more fragrance free skin care.

I feel like this is something a lot of us are looking into more, given how harsh fragrance can be, especially on the delicate skin of the face. I am a little scent obsessed. One of my favourite things to do is drape myself across my chair, and lather some luxurious and elegantly scented product on. Preferably while listening to the Flower Duet. But I have skin that leans on the sensitive side and I can’t help wondering how my face might feel about some simpler, gentler products. It’s worth a look, I think.

Try different body care products.

There’s an area of my beauty routine that I think could be even more extra than it is already, and that’s body care. So I like a bath once or twice a week, I love my Chanel ‘Chance Eau Fraiche’ body lotion. I dry brush now. It’s sounding like I do a lot, right? But I think I could do more, because often this area seems like a bit of an afterthought.

Wear red lips more often.

I have long hair and the area I live in gets some strong, fresh breezes right off the water. This is a dangerous combination for a bright lipstick, even so, I’m serious about this. Minimal makeup with a red lip is one of my absolute favourite looks, and there’s no reason to save it for special occasions alone. At the very least it will help with my other goal of actually using up products. Maybe this year will be about unbridled enthusiasm. Oh, I like that idea.

Does anyone else have plans like these? Maybe you’d like to wear perfume more often and add some glamour to the everyday, or finally getting that bold haircut you’ve been thinking about.
